The Kids Cancer Care – Derek Wandzura Memorial Scholarship

The Kids Cancer Care Derek Wandzura Memorial Scholarship was established in 2008 to help childhood cancer survivors pursue their education dreams. As I’m sure you know, cancer and its treatments can have lasting effects on growing minds and bodies, often resulting in missed school and missed opportunities. This scholarship, named in honour of Kids Cancer Care’s founder late son Derek, is designed to help level the playing field for these kids.

Applications open on February 1, and must be submitted by April 30th, 2018. They may be mailed or faxed to the Kids Cancer Care office, or emailed directly to Kelly Raymond.

 

To be eligible for the Derek Wandzura Memorial Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a childhood cancer patient or survivor.
  • Have applied to/ be enrolled in a post-secondary education institute. Universities, colleges, technical institutes and learning centers for academic upgrading are all acceptable institutes. Institutes may be located in Alberta, Canada or anywhere in the world.
  • Be a resident of Southern Alberta – includes Red Deer and all communities south.
  • Submit a complete application package by April 30th.

 

Completed application packages include a written essay, 2 letters of reference, a note from the child’s Oncologist confirming diagnosis/treatment, transcripts, and proof of enrollment/acceptance to a post-secondary institution. In 2017, 10 scholarships were awarded to childhood cancer survivors.

Open House

SAIT will host an Open House on Saturday, February 10, from 9am – 4pm. Programs still accepting applications for fall 2018 will be featured. Guests can attend info sessions, tours, talk to our industry-trained instructors, ask questions and apply for free during the event hours (one application per person). Application assistance will be available from 9am – 4pm.

Transfer Options

SAIT programs offer hundreds of options for students who want to obtain a degree or continue their education at another post-secondary institution. Transfer Options are program to program transfer agreements that allow students to build on their studies and achieve their educational and career goals.

Featured program: Mechanical Engineering Technology

SAIT’s Mechanical Engineering Technology program allows students to develop strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills essential for a range of exciting careers in mechanical engineering. With two and three-year diploma options, this program also allows students to choose one of the following majors:

  • Design and Analysis
  • Design and Development
  • Design and Automation

Upon completion, graduates obtain the designation of Mechanical Engineering Technologist and may find employment in research and development, mechanical equipment design, testing, quality control or project management in a wide range of professional and technical industry sectors including manufacturing, energy production, electronics, aerospace, plastics, wood products, warehousing, food processing and technical sales.

Tuesday, Feb. 13 – 6:30 pm Join us to learn about the Civil Engineering Technology program where you will learn the practical skills needed to work on teams that design and move engineering and building projects through construction. Get trained for real-life situations including subdivision, roadway and bridge design.

Information Systems Security

Wednesday, Feb. 14 – 6 pm Our new Information Systems Security program trains you to enter the IT security profession with solid fundamental knowledge of defensive and offensive tools, malware analysis, networking, reverse engineering, tool construction and more.

Broadcast Systems Technology

Wednesday, Feb. 14 – 6 pm Our Broadcast Systems Technology program will prepare you for a career installing, maintaining and repairing electronic and computer equipment. As a broadcasting grad, your possible employers include television and radio stations, post-production facilities and equipment manufacturers.

Graphic Communications and Print Technology

Wednesday, Feb. 21 – 6 pm Start a career in digital graphics through our Graphic Communications and Print Technology program. Learn about typography, layout, visual design, web and print production and more to work for commercial printers, publishing companies, advertising agencies or graphic arts firms.

Re/Max of Western Canada – Quest for Excellence 2018 – Bursary Program

RE/MAX of Western Canada Quest for Excellence bursary program closes March 12, 2018, lets get the word out there!

This year we are once again offering (16) $1,000 bursaries for a total of $16,000 to grade 12 students.

This program was established by RE/MAX of Western Canada to recognize the success and ongoing pursuits of Western Canadian students in regards to leadership and community contribution initiatives. Students can enter online at www.remax.ca.

2018 Quest for Excellence program is open for submissions from September 11, 2017 until midnight March 12, 2018. Only online entries will be accepted.
